Veiled Chronicles

A project exploring female Muslims as the main protagonists of the classical fairytales Little Red Riding Hood, Robinhood, and Arabian Nights. A part of the series from Little Red Riding Hood was later featured in the Sp/n gallery in UTD. This project, at its core, aims to show Muslim women beyond the realm of what they decide to wear. While a scarf is something many Muslim women adorn for religious purposes, it is not the entire sum of their personality. They have moments of fear, joy, mistakes, and more, which is oftentimes neglected for the sake of stereotypical drama. So, for the chance to learn something new and explore this idea, I decided to aim to tell a narrative using images based upon old classical fairy tales with Muslimahs playing the roles of the various characters. If they feel like just any other character, then good! Because just like any other character, they are complex and human with a lot to offer to the story they partake in.
